REST if you must, but DON’T QUIT

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but do not quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow–
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out —
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit —
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Jumong The End. Bakekang Continues …

March 15, 2007

Yup, I repeat, last episode (Ep.81)! You've got to hold on now. You've got to hold on …

What's the point of comparison? Wala lang! Magkasunod kasi sila ng timeslot eh.  :-P

In fairness, maganda ang pagkaka-acting niya sa panget niyang role as Bakekang.

Philippines Ranks 4th this Year …

as the MOST BLOODIEST COUNTRY for Journalist in 10 years

March 2007

The Philippines is the fourth bloodiest country for journalists in the last 10 years, according to a study by an international media safety group.

In its study from 1996 to 2006, the International News Safety Institute or INSI (www.newssafety.com) said the Philippines had 55 journalists killed between 1996 and 2006, behind Iraq (138), Russia (88), and Colombia (72).

The INSI also found that the news media death toll has increased steadily since 2000. The last full year covered by the report, 2005, was a record with 147 dead.

It has since emerged that 2006 was even worse, with 167 fatalities, according to INSI's annual tally.

In the Philippines, 50 - out of the 55 journalists killed in the past 10 years - were killed since 2001, a report by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) said.

"This report confirms the shocking reality that journalists and the people who work with them are at risk today more than ever before … It is a wake-up call to the industry and the international political community - we must do more to find and prosecute the killers and we must act together to reduce the risks our people face," Christopher Warren, president of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), said in a statement. [Full story @ GMANews.tv]

I don't know how to react to this particular news because I think I become immuned to this kind of world record for our country. Last year, the Philippines also ranked the Most Riskiest Place second only to Iraq, with 23 incidents of killed journalists. Is this really what we want to be recognize by the world? Or is it because despite the effort of the culprit to hide these crimes, it seems they still cannot cover up the whole story. This year's report that we seem to went down two ranks of this list of notorious countries in the world, I don't think this is something to be ignored. Next year, 2008, I don't see the possibility that we can beat the record of Iraq being in 1st placer in the list, but it's equally possible that we can again get the 2nd place just like we did last October 2006. With these facts, can we still say we are Proud to be Pinoy? And who's really the culprit anyways? I'm glad to realized that I didn't make it to the last day of this year's voting registration, because .. umm, well … just because. :-P (hehe)

[argh .. RiP]

Jesus Christ is now in Houston?

March 12, 2007

Obviously for me, he's another fake one. He is Dr. Jose Luis De Jesus Miranda, a Puertorican version of the Filipino preacher in Davao City who also claims the same. (The other guy is Apollo C. Quiboloy). They're both claiming to be the second coming of Jesus Christ in the form of man, and worse than our fellow Pinoy, this impostor in Houston, Texas brainwashes his followers to the most insane concept in the entire history of Christianity. He dismissed all basic doctrines of Christianity — from the existence of sin, satan the devil, hell, etc. — leaving only one of his greatest source of business, the collection of 10% or tithing (which by the way, is not limited to that percentage but in fact he boasts that he gets  actually multiples of that tithing, and can exceed to 100%!). He encourages his followers to also spread the message of his second coming to the world in their protest rallies, which usually aggravates to violent confrontations. He started preaching in Miami then moved to Houston, and is now actually aiming for 'world domination'. Working diligently to achieve both dreams of Religious & Political dominion — 'Gobierno de Dios en La Tierra' — building a New World of government … which is actually a very scary one.

I found four (4) video links from Youtube.com showing his TV interviews direct from the horses mouth. I made a draft transcript from these videos for your review. I just hope that this guy in the US won't inspire our fellow Pinoy in Davao City, and learns from his tactical lies and deception schemes to spread their craziest ideas to the fragile minds of some believers.

PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS KIND. WATCH THIS ONE VIDEO OR YOU CAN WATCH THEM ALL.

Join the Fight for Internet Freedom

SAVE THE WORLD … WIDE WEB

Support this Campaign in your Blogs

WHAT IS NET NEUTRALITY?

When we log onto the Internet, we take lots of things for granted. We assume that we'll be able to access whatever Web site we want, whenever we want to go there. We assume that we can use any feature we like — watching online video, listening to podcasts, searching, emailing, and instant messaging — anytime we choose. We assume that we can attach devices like wireless routers, game controllers, or extra hard drives to make our online experience better.

What makes all these assumptions possible is "Network Neutrality," the guiding principle that ensures the Internet remains free and unrestricted. Net Neutrality prevents the companies that control the wires bringing you the Internet from discriminating against content based on its ownership or source. But that could all change.

The biggest cable and telephone companies would like to charge money for smooth access to Web sites, speed to run applications, and permission to plug in devices. These network giants believe they should be able to charge Web site operators, application providers, and device manufacturers for the right to use the network. Those who don't make a deal and pay up will experience discrimination: Their sites won't load as quickly, their applications and devices won't work as well. Without legal protection, consumers could find that a network operator has blocked the Web site of a competitor, or slowed it down so much that it's unusable.

The network owners say they want a "tiered" Internet. If you pay to get in the top tier, your site and your service will run fast. If you don't, you'll be in the slow lane.

SO, WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

Discrimination: The Internet was designed as an open medium. The fundamental idea on the Internet since its inception is that every Web site, every feature, and every service should be treated exactly the same. That's how bloggers can compete with the CNN or USA Today for readers. That's how up-and-coming musicians can build underground audiences before they get their first top-40 single. That's why when you use a search engine, you see a hit list of the sites that are the closest match to your request — not those who paid the most to reach you. Discrimination endangers our basic Internet freedoms.

Double-dipping: Traditionally, network owners have built a business model by charging consumers for access. Now they want to charge you for access to the network, and then charge you again for the things you do while you're online. They may not charge you directly via pay-per-view Web sites. But they will charge all the service providers you use — who will pass those costs along to you in the form of price hikes or new charges to view content.

Stifling innovation: Net Neutrality ensures that innovators can start small and dream big about being the next EBay or Google without facing insurmountable hurdles. Unless we preserve Net Neutrality, startups and entrepreneurs will be muscled out of the marketplace by big corporations that pay for a top spot on the Web. On a tiered Internet controlled by the phone and cable companies, only their own content and services — or those offered by corporate partners who pony up enough "protection money" — will enjoy life in the fast lane.

WHAT'S WORSE TO HAPPEN?

Make no mistake: The freewheeling Internet as we know it could very well become history.

What does that mean? It means we could be heading toward a pay-per-view Internet where Web sites have fees. It means we may have to pay a network tax to run voice-over-the-Internet phones, use an advanced search engine, or chat via Instant Messenger. The next generation of magical new inventions will be shut out of the top-tier service level. Meanwhile the network owners will rake in even greater profits.

The Winners of the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards …

are not yet disclosed. :-D

Nominees of the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards

"The Philippine Blog Awards aims to recognize notable Filipino-owned blogs in their respective niches — a venue to showcase notable blogs with quality content that engages readers from around the globe."

Sinag, Sinagiph” (http://sinag.i.ph) is my 2-months-old blog site, which I found out to be included in this pile of nominees competing in the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards for the Best Personal Blog category.

Huuuwhat?! Is this for real? Mine is in the list too? I found a similar post on Cortez’s Blog so I checked it again on PBA's site. And there I saw 209 entries on the Personal Blog category alone! I just don’t know how a (zero) 0 PageRank site (like mine) can have a slight chance of winning this thing against this professional bloggers with ranks as high as PR6. I know that Philippine Blog Awards has their own way of judging this, but I am just aware of Google’s Page Ranking (PR) System, that's why I sorted the nominees based on their PR. Although I noticed that not all these blogs are best suited for the category it was included, I am just presenting the list in this manner for a quick review. I just hope the judges will later do the proper categorization of each entry. And also, the Special Awards can be awarded to any of the nominees in whatever category. Like for example, the Bloggers’ Choice Award or the Best Blog Design can be given to an entry in the Personal category eventhough that blog site was not submitted in the Special Awards category. What do you guys think? Anyways, it’s not for us to decide. :-)

(But hey, I think I already saw that site on the other category! And that one too…. can that be considered a blog site? Oops, I'm just thinking aloud :P . O.k., w/o further ado, here are the nominees for the …

A Wikipedia Editor is a Theology Professor …. NOT!

March 9, 2007

Wikipedia ['wiki' + 'encyclopedia'] is an online encyclopedia that uses a web technology that allows any user to add and edit contents/articles collaboratively around the world. This became a great resource of information for internet users.

But I don't know how to trust Wikipedia's integrity now, after a news broke about a certain contributor/administrator known as EssJay, who purposely used false credentials and unjustified claims and altered 20,000 entries with his biases. He described himself holding a Ph.D degree in Theology and Canon Laws. This fake 'tenured prof. of religion at a private university' excused himself that the false details were intended to avoid cyberstalking.

After investigation, EssJay's identity was exposed as Ryan Jordan, a 24-year-old community college drop-out without any advanced degrees.

This controversy only erupted when he unmindfully told in an interview with a reporter, Stacy Schiff, will be made published on a magazine. This turn-out of events shocked him saying,

"It was, quite honestly, my impression that it was well known that I was not who I claimed to be, and that in the absence of any confirmation, no respectable publication would print it." — EssJay

Now, Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia requested his resignation eventhough EssJay already made a personal apology to him.

EssJay announced  his retirement from Wikipedia on his user talk page. His tenure on Wikia was from January 2007 — March 4, 2007.

To summarize this story in three sentences:

Lyrics:

Oh Hear our voices Oh Lord we give You thanks

For all the things You've done and everlasting grace
We have come as one united
Our hearts rejoice with Your love
The life towards perfection in Your hand

The time has come that we have gathered in Your name
Hand in hand we uphold Your glorious flame
You brought us to the light and made us realize
Every moment of our lives you make it right

You gave us strength to face against the test of time
Day by day You were there to shine Your light
You pour Your endless love that purifies our hearts
You were there to lead us to eternal life

Oh Hear our voices Oh Lord we give You thanks
For all the things You've done and everlasting grace
We have come as one united
Our hearts rejoice with Your love
The life towards perfection in Your hand

We worship You with all our strength and all our might
Till this day, until the time we come to end
In heavens we will sing our praise unceasingly
For Your words and righteousness had set us free

Oh Hear our voices Oh Lord we give You thanks
For all the things You've done and everlasting grace
We have come as one united
Our hearts rejoice with Your love
The life towards perfection in Your hand

We will let nothing in this world
Hinder our vows and holy duties
Until we reach perfection

Oh Hear our voices
Oh Lord we give You thanks
For all the things You've done
And everlasting grace
We have come as one united
Our hearts rejoice with Your love
The life towards perfection
The life towards perfection
The life towards perfection in Your hand
Amen….
